Match Report by Kesh Murthy
The 3s headed out to Southgate for a lunchtime fixture against the team that the 3s played on the opening day of the season. That day, the 3s lost 5-1, and were out for blood to avenge their defeat. A squad of 12 was bare bones, but after a rapid warm up, we were on the pitch and raring to go. The game started at a slow pace, with neither side managing to get a foothold in, unless some good play from James set Dane up, but his shot could only crash against the post. From that moment on, it was all Chiswick. A short corner was won quickly and some good play at top of the D led to Jonty getting a clean shot away for the opening goal. The short corner has been a strong tool for the 3s this season, and they played to their strengths, forcing their way into the D and winning another short. Again, Jonty stepped up to bury his, and Chiswick’s, 2nd of the match. Paul Caine at centre back was seeming to have an easy day, masterfully dealing with any Southgate breaks to keep the pressure on. 2-0 at the half. The second half opened with Nick Woon moving to the midfield from defence and bossing the game. Some raucous skill from him at the start of the half allowed Kesh Murthy to smash a ball into the D, which Jonty duly put away to score his third and complete the hattrick. A little complacency hit Chiswick and Southgate clawed a goal back, but this only woke up the 3s, who piled forward again to get the 3 goal cushion back. Another short corner, and another goal, this time from SP. David Young rounded the day off with a sublime reverse stick off a short corner routine as the 3s avenged their opening 5-1 loss with a 5-1 win. MoM - David Young DoD- Chee Ho Wan
