PHC CHISWICK PACKS A PUNCH AS IT ENTERS 2013/2014 SEASON!! Renowned for being one of the friendliest hockey clubs in London, PHC Chiswick is enticing new players, coaches and umpires with a host of new offerings this season. With a new clubhouse, new second home ground in Acton - complete with newly laid pitch, local community initiatives and enhanced hockey offering for junior members, mixed teams and a back-to-hockey scheme for those seeking an excuse to don their shin pads once again - this season promises to be an exceptional year for the West London club. Since it launched in 1891 the club has continued to go from strength-to-strength. The ambitious club most recently added a sixth to their ladies lineup and now comprises 12 teams - six men’s and six ladies’ - with plans to introduce junior membership and mixed hockey offering to the club this season. Some of the most notable talent can be found in the upper echelons of the squad with the Ladies 1s in the South League and the Men’s 1s in MBBO (Middx, Berks, Bucks & Oxon) Division 1 - both of whom, like all the PHC Polly Parrots, will be eagerly pushing for promotion. Due to the expansion of the club it was necessary to find an additional home pitch and it is thanks to a new relationship with fellow West London sports club, the Old Actonians - known for its talented rugby, football and cricket teams - that PHC Chiswick can now call the Liverpool Victoria Sports Ground in Acton Town their second home. Linford Christie Stadium, a stone’s throw away in East Acton, will continue to remain the fortress it has been. Keen to kickstart the season with aplomb this year has already seen the club embark on planning a series of community initiatives in partnership with England Hockey and both Hammersmith & Fulham and Ealing Councils, such as supporting the Chiswick Community Games. Links with local universities and England Hockey schemes such as Rush Hockey and Back-to-Hockey (targeting those who played at school and university but have taken a break and are now looking to get back into the sport). Speaking about PHC Chiswick’s future, newly elected Club Chairman Dave Haggart said “This is going to be a cracking year for PHC Chiswick - with a new pitch and clubhouse, thanks to our friends at the Old Actonians Sports Club, new teams aimed at the young and the young at heart and a host of new talent there has never been a better time to be or become part of PHC Chiswick.” Continuing the sentiment President Niall Mutch said “We’re delighted to take the club to the next level with this season seeing so many new offerings we’re looking forward to welcoming an array of new members whether they’re players, umpires, coaches or simply looking to join our renowned socials.” For further information about PHC Chiswick Hockey Club and how to join visit www.phcchiswick.com or e-mail [email protected] Facebook https://www.facebook.com/PHC.Chiswick.Hockey // Twitter @PHCChis_Hockey
