A terrific victory (2-0 win) for the 6s who played away at Teddington. An early goal (within the opening minute) from the speedy Christina Kio secured the lead and gave the team a boost in confidence and determination, which continued to increase during the match.
Margaret Palmer scored the second goal from a short corner. Kudos to Emma Snell who assisted both goals. MOM went to Heather Poel who played out of her normal position in defence, but was still a complete asset to the team during long corners. DOD went to Soledad Prats who was unashamedly hungover from the night before and unable to get out of bed for the match! All in all, an excellent start to the weekend!

On Saturday 27 February, Chiswick's Ladies 2s lost 2-3 to Eastcote's second team.
Having had a high energy training session on Wednesday, the team started the match full of positive energy. Their dedication was rewarded in the first half when Cushla Bowie scored the first goal from a short corner. However, shortly after Eastcote made a break and brought the score up to 1-1. Another scorching short corner strike from Cushla Bowie brought Chiswick Ladies 2s ahead again. Unfortunately, Eastcote scored twice more, making the final score a disappointing 2-3. MOM went to Cushla Bowie for her great short corners. DOD was awarded to Emma Bornebroek for an unfortunate incident involving her gum shield and a flushing toilet. So this week was the kind of week we all had to remind ourselves we do really love hockey and what a fantastic sport it can be...as middle of the afternoon, cold damp and dreary with portaloos for changing rooms is not most people’s idea of a great Saturday.
Anyway, the team showed up raring and eager to to win and show some of the stuff we do so well at training. However, a combination of an interrupted warmup, a serious lack of yellow socks (naming no names) and bin bag attire was not the best start to the game. We had a fairly strong first half but the oppo were playing some annoyingly good hockey. Shout out to our man of the match Matilda Lang for some great saves to keep us relatively in the game. Second half was much stronger only conceding one. Some great midfield work and sold defence showing some good determination as a team. We have high hopes for next week if we can continue with that attitude, bring the correct colour socks and I promise no 2am emails from me (Grace Glendinning)! Ladies 6s played the 5s at home in Acton. Terrific play all round, despite conceding an unlucky goal in the first half. End result was an admirable 1-0 loss for the 6s.
MoM went to Soledad Prats for excellent play in the midfield. DoD went to Amy Nelson for being in the wrong city for the game. Super excited for next week's match against Teddington. 6s played Hampstead & Westminster 7s at Paddington Recreation Grounds and lost 6-0. We made a few short passes which strung together into a several lovely breaks towards the opposition's goal. We need to work on free hits, one-touch passing, and fitness.
Man of the match went to Soledad Prats for her excellent play in the midfield. Dick of the day was Saadia Rahman for forgetting her hockey shoes at home, and having to call upon her boyfriend to drop them off at the pitch! Despite the loss, morale was good and 6s are looking forward to playing the ladies 5s next weekend! "Oh flippin Sunday games!" is how some of the Chiswick ladies 1’s felt after a few drinks on Saturday night. But that’s what happens with catch up games, they are played on a bloody Sunday!
The game started off on the back foot with Maidenhead scoring first goal and Chiswick took this as a wakeup call to realise that we can’t lose this! First goal was from Rebecca Smith off a short corner which was a result of some skilful ball control by Rhianna Buchannan winning the foul in the ‘D’. Second goal was a real super team effort of passing skills which led into a ball passed to Lisa Crane who then found the stick of Tee Barrack who slotted in a second goal. Second half, possession was all in Chiswick’s control resulting into many short corners which led to two goals from Lindsay Forbes and Tee Barrack caused from a Forbes Straight strike and a super post pass from Mary Gamble. A penalty flick was then awarded to Maidenhead. Kylie Burnett again stepped up for the team and yet another epic save! She was unstoppable today! Some sleek work from Cushla Bowie in defence led to a quick ball from defence into mid field which led to the final goal. This goal can only described as true Yankee touch down celebration (clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!) As a defender Jen Romano’s mission has been to score a goal for the team and yes, some dreams come true! A great pass from midfield led to ball being driven into the D by Tee Barrack and straight across in the path of Jen Romano who smashed it home for the Chiswick ladies and yes it was a dive on the knees fist pump, celebrations. We all celebrated the epic win and yes it was so worth coming out on a Sunday! MOM: Kylie awesome saves including a penalty flick (and also getting soaked wet before the match to shield a team mate when the pitch was being watered! Legend) DOD: Jen Romano for like the best ever goal celebration the team has ever seen! Chiswick ladies went out raring to go after a disappointing few weeks. However, they started off shaky and a miscommunication led to a goal conceded. West Hampstead 1 Chiswick 0.
This forced the ladies to pull their socks up and play as a unit. An amazing ball from Rebecca Smith down the line to Danni Petticrew who dribbled into the d and scored off a reverse stick shot saw Chiswick go level. Not long later saw Rebecca Smith pass to Laura Patterson who ran all the way from the half way line into the d. She shoots. She scores! Half time score Chiswick 2 West Hampstead 1. The second half saw a very determined Chiswick play some beautiful hockey. Another amazing pass from Rebecca Smith resulted in another goal from Danni Petticrew. Chiswick then won a pc which saw a great pass from Rhianna Buchanan to Lindsay Forbes who smashed it into the back of the net. A second pc resulted in pretty much the same with this time Rhianna Buchanan passing to Mary Gamble who slotted it in. Joint MOM Rebecca Smith and Danni Petticrew DOD Jen Romano On Saturday 6th February, the 6s played Indian Gymkhana in Southall. Although IG are a tough opposition to play - the 6s lost 11:0 to them in the first half of the season, when IG only had 8 players - the 6s did a good job of holding off their advances for the first 20 minutes of the match.
The 6s lost 7:0 to IG in the end, but were happy with the result, as this was a definite improvement on their first match against IG and is proof that the team is learning to work well together. Whilst Hannah Rudd won the title of MOM for volunteering to play in goal and doing a great job, Helen Lee was nominated for DOD, as she turned up to support IG against her former team! Hehe. The 2's started the game sporting blue and yellow army face paint, camo headbands and inflatable parrots ready for the big derby ahead. Fortune cookies provided by trooper goalie Mathilda Lang set our destinies for the game. The 3's came back fighting with blue wigs and fluorescent glasses. The match started with good intensity as the 2's fought for a goal. After a lot of attacking play the goal finally came from an own goal putting the 2's ahead! We kept the momentum attacking hard with some great saves from the goalie! The next goal then came from some great play with Georgie Wilson putting us 2-0! After some half time beers we were ready and determined for some more goals in the second half. After a great substitution from Coach Cowboy aka Chris Henderson, Charlotte Cooper comes straight on the pitch to get the 2's a third goal. The 3's then fought back with a great reverse hit goal from Feline van der Sluijs. The intensity remained high throughout the whole game which some great set plays! Another great goal came from a deflection from Charlotte placing it in the back of the net. The intensity remained with a final goal a few minutes from the end by Danni Petticrew from the edge of the D into the top corner of the net. A great game was played with great spirit. Social after at Pizza X Drink topped off a great day. MOM goes to Meg Adams for distributing the ball well throughout the whole game and holding a solid centre position. DOD goes to Rebecca Cooper for falling over during the game and passing blame. Well done Ladies 2's great game and great win!" |
