The ladies 4s started this week's match with great gusto but were unlucky to find themselves 1-0 down, 5 minutes into play, as a breakaway ball saw BA find the back of the goal. The 4s were composed however and through some lovely ‘pass and move’ were able to work the ball up the pitch and create several opportunities.
Attacking play from kiwi speedster Sarah Bougen managed to secure the 4s first penalty corner of the match. The 4s knew they were going to run with their well practiced ‘PC routine #3’ and although it didn’t quite play out as planned, quick thinking from Sophie Green saw the 4s equalise at 1-1. The game then became very back and forth until the deadlock was broken by BA with only 3 minutes left in the half. 2-1 down at half time the 4s remained positive, unfortunately it didn't play out as they had hoped. BA capitalised from two penalty corners and Chiswick couldn’t quite find the response required. The match ended at 4-1 but the ladies 4s, in true ladies 4s style, remained positive and are looking forward to next week.

The ladies 1's played away at Hampstead and Westminster on Saturday, looking to improve on a disappointing start to 2016.
They started well, with good amounts of possession and creating multiple turnovers in the midfield. A quick free hit taken by Claire Hearnden enabled Chiswick to break away and after some working of the ball in the circle by Harriet Stevenson Chiswick converted through Tee Barrack to go up 1-0. It stayed that way until half time. Both teams came out strongly after half time, but Hampstead and Westminster were the ones to convert their opportunities, taking it to 1-1. It was an evenly matched game, but unfortunately Hampstead and Westminster were the ones to get the winner, with an accurate penalty corner in the last 5 mins. A disappointing result following last week's win. Tough opposition but 6s held their own for majority of the first half with a clean sheet until the last few minutes. Some good defending and nice runs gave us a couple shots on goal.
Marking was good and helped ensure we had as much possession as possible. We definitely need to work on attacking in triangles to maximise options for passes. 6s are determined to play better next week! Come on, Chiswick! Fabulous game for the 6s and what a terrific come back against a team who beat us 2-0 earlier in the season! We won multiple short corners -- the first one being within the first 30 seconds of the game! We tried out a different formation, with an extra midfielder, and it seemed to work very well. Passing was beautiful and we definitely had more possession than oppo.
Everyone is super pumped for next week! Go Chiswick! |
