Ladies 1's beat Reading 4-2 away. Goals were scored by Sarah Blackburn, Fee Van Der Sluijs, Rebecca Smith, and Lindsay Forbes.
The ladies 1's started the second half of their season with a good win against Reading. Reading's results had been improving steadily throughout the season so they were expecting a tough game. After some difficulty persuading the opposition to share the warm-up pitch, Chiswick had a great warm-up and hit the ground running. The intensity at the start of the game paid off with an early goal to Fee, which was followed soon after by a second from a penalty corner which Lindsay smashed into the corner the goal. Reading played a different structure which put pressure on the midfield and had a few very quick forwards who forced the backs to work hard to shut them down. Becks scored a third goal from a great PC, but Reading hit back just before half-time. The second half held some good chances for both teams, Reading got a goal which snuck through a penalty corner and Sarah got one of the best goals of the season so far through a diving deflection. MOM: Sarah Blackburn for her fantastic goal as well as good play throughout the game. DOD: Kylie for driving a vehicle which was to big to get into the car park

Ladies 6s enjoy a whopping 8-0 victory.
The Ladies 6s arrived at the grand gates of Old Merchant Taylors feeling ready to wreak havoc on the pitch, and boy they did. Despite the sun doing a fantastic job of blinding the team, Chiswick still got off to a quick start with a lovely goal by Charlotte Kendall (who carried on even after grazing her rear from a fall). The remainder of the match seemed like déjà vu as the L6’s just couldn’t be tamed by the OMT’s. As the half time whistle blew Chiswick found themselves 5-0 up, but they didn’t stop there. As the second half unfolded, quick passes, excellent pressure and a strong structure allowed the Super Sizes to dominate, whacking in a further 3 goals. Our Man of the Match was once again the lovely Magui who just couldn’t seem to stop winning the ball. DoD was well earned by Charlotte, who continued to fall over after a lacklustre warm up (her two goals made up for it though). PHC Chiswick Super Sixes are on a roll…try and keep up with us if you can! MOM: Magui DOD: Charlotte Ladies 1s beat Henley 5-3 at home in Acton. Goals were scored by Rhianna Buchanan, Lindsay Forbes, Rebecca Smith and Sarah Blackburn (2).
For the first match since the beginning of the season the Ladies 1s had a full bench, allowing everyone to play full force knowing that there was a strong squad of players to continually keep up a high intensity game. Unfortunately a short warm up due to a late start meant that heads weren't switched on quick enough and the Ladies 1 were down 0-1 after 13 minutes. The play remained positive by Chiswick and the pay off for some excellent one-two plays and getting a short corner came in a goal by Rhi from the rebound. Henley responded 2 minutes later with a well executed short corner deflection but Chiswick's fire had been ignited and Sarah made it 2-2 coming into half time. When the second half started Chiswick came into their own, going 3-2 up from another short corner with an excellently hit strike from Lindsay from the top of the circle, then 4-2 up with a superb strike from open play from Bex. With all the intensity came some harsh decisions by the umpire - both Claires (Mount and Hearnden) getting cards (green and yellow respectively). Henley attempted a come back, and did get one more goal. However Sarach Blackburn struck again, ensuring Bex's shot ended in the net and making the final score 5-3. MOM: Jen Romano, Bex Smith and Sarah Blackburn, all for excellent play throughout DOD: Sarah Blackburn for running into Claire Mount when subbing This week’s game was a bit different to normal due to the squad we had playing for us, but what a game! To come back in both halves from 2-0 down shows our determination and commitment to the game! It was unlucky that they scored so quickly, however we then dominated for 2/3 of the 1st half. It was a similar picture in the 2nd half too. Thank you to JP who was there to manage and support us for the first half and guide our half time talk!
I’d like to say a massive thank you to Laura, Teresa and Emily who played up from Ladies 3s and also to Michelle and Ruth who were asked last minute on Friday to join us. We really enjoyed having you with us and hope you did too! MOM: to Cappy for being calm, cool and collective throughout the whole game. DOD: split 3 ways to Laura for sharing tactics with the opposition by shouting them out across the pitch, Lauren for an aerial ball that touched the football net curtain rail and JP for commenting about the age of the L2 in the changing room! A good game for the ladies 6s, despite the loss. Their first game against Harrow this season saw them lose 9-0, so this weeks result was a huge improvement, with our ladies losing out narrowly with a 2-1 loss. Man of the match went to Magui, our super junior playing just her second game for the seniors section. Dick of the day went to Emily for ripping her leggings in a match tumble.
Fantastic improvement this season ladies! Despite the end result (2-1 loss), this was a great game for the Super Sixes who were on fine form. The last game the 6s played against them (a very strong oppo) resulted in a 9-0 loss so this was a huge improvement for the team!
MOM went to Magui de Cara (recently promoted from the Juniors) who never gave up on the forward line. DOD went to Emily Norman who sadly ripped her leggings when she fell over. Special mentions must also go to Margaret Palmer who scored the opening goal on a short corner, and Sarah Murphy who played an awesome game in goal for us! The ladies 4s faced Staines 3s this week in a match that promised to be a close one, as both teams were promoted last season. The 4s started with their usual fire and were quickly on the attack, great passing and movement saw the 4s with several opportunities and even a penalty corner. However their goal came from a great passage of play where Clare Ormerod worked the ball up the sideline to Teresa Knoerr, who found Chloe Hole at the top of the D, Chloe then fired the ball into Sophie Green who found the back of the goal from a midrange shot. The 4s kept the tempo up and managed to hold Staines to 0-1 at half time. However, in the second half Staines fought back and quickly equalised. Both sides then seemed to take their foot off the pedal a bit, with a lot of back and forth play that didn’t see either side break the deadlock. All in all, a fair result and it's great to see both teams stay up in division 1 after getting promoted last season. MoM: Clare Ormerod for some epic defending and fantastic runs DoD: Sarah Bougan for her potty mouth After an intense training session during the week, the 2s were raring and ready to go and wreak revenge on Hampstead & Westminster 4s for the narrow 2-1 defeat earlier in the season.
After some public transport and delays due to food issues, we all congregated in the changing room to discuss pre-game tactics and where Feline van der Sluijs decided to give a surprised Bec Cooper an unexpected lap dance, all in the name of team bonding. The game started strongly after the smallest of warm-ups as apparently National League Men's teams prefer chatting to the umpire rather than playing hockey and Chiswick applied pressure straight from the off. Despite efforts from both teams, half-time was reached and the scoreline was still 0-0. The breakthrough came when after some lovely passing up the pitch and ball retention, Feline van der Sluijs buried a beautiful reverse stick shot in the back of the goal. Despite conceding an equaliser, Chiswick did not give up and let heads go down as on previous occasions and our efforts were finally rewarded with a PC 2 minutes from time. As the umpire played on some dubious advantage from a flick, Bec Cooper acted like a woman possessed and peppered the goal with shot after shot. One of these managed to find its way through the keeper and defenders to Tara Feeney on the goal line and she pounced to make it 2-1. A great team performance and special mention must be made to Feline van der Sluijs, as this was her first ever win playing for PHC Chiswick! A disappointing loss for the ladies 6s against Eastcote at home. We had plenty of shots on goal and were unlucky on several occasions. Nevertheless, there were some beautiful passes and runs, especially from Tamara Johnson, our Man of the Match, who scored a goal in the first half.
DOD went to Emma Snell who, despite her excellent play in the midfield, somehow forgot how to tie her shoes laces! Better game next Saturday! 3 more games this season and we're not giving up! A terrific victory (2-0 win) for the 6s who played away at Teddington. An early goal (within the opening minute) from the speedy Christina Kio secured the lead and gave the team a boost in confidence and determination, which continued to increase during the match.
Margaret Palmer scored the second goal from a short corner. Kudos to Emma Snell who assisted both goals. MOM went to Heather Poel who played out of her normal position in defence, but was still a complete asset to the team during long corners. DOD went to Soledad Prats who was unashamedly hungover from the night before and unable to get out of bed for the match! All in all, an excellent start to the weekend! |
