The game started off and from the get go we took it to Sonning in the first ten minutes relentless attacks and well-constructed and patient passing at the back, which in turned allowed the midfield to push through and pick out passes into the circle to the strikers. Persistence paid off after a well-constructed passage of play starting from the back and working its way from Bex Smith to Laura Jacques down the right through Helen "Three goals" Taylor who threaded a pass through to Tee Barrack who then found Ceilidh Walker free just inside the left post, who pounced on the ball, low body position and opened up the scoring 1-0. The rest of the half was not that eventful, with countless shots on goal, fantastic defensive tackles, classy stick work and a considerable amount of PC's the score remained 1-0 at half time. Second half played out much the same, but Sonning had lifted their game, which resulted in a well taken PC from a straight shot they evened up the score. 1-1.... Making our way back for the restart... No one saw it coming but our fiery and fearless Bex uttered the words that forever will be etched in PHC Chiswick folklore...."How does that make you feel???" At that moment all went quiet as 11 internal monologues were thinking "Not that good actually Bex, like hell we are going to let Sonning take this from us." So just like the Irish anthem with a PHC twist....Chiswick Chiswick together we shall stand, shoulder to shoulder we will answer Bex's call. So with Bex's words ringing in our ears it had set a light and fire in our belly's, we lifted our intensity and our desire, which came with reward. Again a nice piece of passing from the backs through to the midfield from Lisa Crane into Tee and with a bit of African booty and body blocking on their centre back Rhianna Buchanan was able to fire off a shot within striking distance. The ice-breaker, 2-1. Not content we came at them again and this time a replay of the last goal but with some subtle touches in the D from Tee and a well-timed deflection from Alex Earnshaw saw the score jump to 3-1. A special mention to Millie- who lead the from the back, put her body on the line and pulled out some superman saves with the support of her wingman KD and Mary and the relentless cover defence of Gigi and Cath. DoD: Tee Barrack- Clean sheet Millie.... MoM: Rhianna- Work rate and scoring.

The sun was shining on Linford Christie this weekend, and so were the goal gods, as Chiswick Ladies 1s romped to a convincing 5-0 win over Oxford Ladies 2s. It was Take That’s come-back anthem that played heavily on the Blues minds during the first half, with Chiswick knowing that despite heavily dominating possession, the goals might be harder to come by. They just needed to have a little patience…..BOOM…. Feeling inspired by Barlow’s words, Chiswick started brightly and pressured the Oxford defence from the off, creating numerous chances without finding the back of the net. Rhi Buchanan was eventually rewarded for her tireless work around the D, when her shot took a big deflection from an Oxford stick, looping in to the back of the net. A second followed shortly before half time from Alex Earnshaw to give the home team a settled lead heading into half time. But no one could have predicted what was about to happen in the second half. Something never seen before on Chiswick soil, and something that will be etched into the long, proud history of PHC Chiswick for the rest of time, and the memories of all who witnessed it. In a player of the match performance, Helen Taylor scored not ONCE, but TWICE– over doubling her season tally #goalscoringmachine. Despite struggling to come to terms with what they had just seen, Chiswick managed to hold their focus for the remainder of the game. Even Becky Smith’s attempts to recreate the ‘ride the horse’ sequence from Phi’s K-Pop phenomenon in the middle of the pitch with the opposition centre forward, could not put Chiswick off their stride. In a bid to out-do Taylor-the-Goal Nailer, Rhi Bhuchanan added a second goal to her growing tally with a goal so amazing that even words cannot describe (i.e. Ed has forgotten it). Chiswick ran out 5-0 winners and to celebrate there were sausage rolls all round. Mom: Helen Taylor – 2 goals……..whhhaaaattt?!?!? Dod: Rhi Buchanan – for failing to recognise the Chiswick Mens 2s team who were playing in exactly the same kit as ours |
