The sun was shining on Linford Christie this weekend, and so were the goal gods, as Chiswick Ladies 1s romped to a convincing 5-0 win over Oxford Ladies 2s. It was Take That’s come-back anthem that played heavily on the Blues minds during the first half, with Chiswick knowing that despite heavily dominating possession, the goals might be harder to come by. They just needed to have a little patience…..BOOM…. Feeling inspired by Barlow’s words, Chiswick started brightly and pressured the Oxford defence from the off, creating numerous chances without finding the back of the net. Rhi Buchanan was eventually rewarded for her tireless work around the D, when her shot took a big deflection from an Oxford stick, looping in to the back of the net. A second followed shortly before half time from Alex Earnshaw to give the home team a settled lead heading into half time. But no one could have predicted what was about to happen in the second half. Something never seen before on Chiswick soil, and something that will be etched into the long, proud history of PHC Chiswick for the rest of time, and the memories of all who witnessed it. In a player of the match performance, Helen Taylor scored not ONCE, but TWICE– over doubling her season tally #goalscoringmachine. Despite struggling to come to terms with what they had just seen, Chiswick managed to hold their focus for the remainder of the game. Even Becky Smith’s attempts to recreate the ‘ride the horse’ sequence from Phi’s K-Pop phenomenon in the middle of the pitch with the opposition centre forward, could not put Chiswick off their stride. In a bid to out-do Taylor-the-Goal Nailer, Rhi Bhuchanan added a second goal to her growing tally with a goal so amazing that even words cannot describe (i.e. Ed has forgotten it). Chiswick ran out 5-0 winners and to celebrate there were sausage rolls all round. Mom: Helen Taylor – 2 goals……..whhhaaaattt?!?!? Dod: Rhi Buchanan – for failing to recognise the Chiswick Mens 2s team who were playing in exactly the same kit as ours
