A disappointing result following last week's win. Tough opposition but 6s held their own for majority of the first half with a clean sheet until the last few minutes. Some good defending and nice runs gave us a couple shots on goal.
Marking was good and helped ensure we had as much possession as possible. We definitely need to work on attacking in triangles to maximise options for passes. 6s are determined to play better next week! Come on, Chiswick!

Fabulous game for the 6s and what a terrific come back against a team who beat us 2-0 earlier in the season! We won multiple short corners -- the first one being within the first 30 seconds of the game! We tried out a different formation, with an extra midfielder, and it seemed to work very well. Passing was beautiful and we definitely had more possession than oppo.
Everyone is super pumped for next week! Go Chiswick! L1s finish first half of season top of the league with another win (2-1) against Eastcote L1s!12/12/2015 With Mary missing we needed a new captain for the game....cue Jen Romano....The Ladies 1's turned up ready for the match, with a good majority of the team being sober...and then there was Bex Smith...who knows whether she was hung over or still drunk. The game started and Chiswick Ladies 1's stormed ahead with an early goal scored by Laura Patterson. Part way through the first half our new captain went down from a stick to the face - blood everywhere - luckily our lovely supporters were doctors/nurses and fixed her right up and she was back in the game! The game was tough, after a bit of a battle between both teams, Eastcote had a few chances to go ahead but Kylie Burnett was there to save these. However, before half time Eastcote scored the equaliser.
After a tough team talk, witnessed by the Ladies 6's, we knew what we needed to do. The second half was still as tough but after a great ball through to Bex Smith from Sarah Blackburn, Bex scored the winning goal (annoying how Bex is still amazing after a few hours sleep!) We did it...top of the league going into Christmas! Bring on the New Year!!! MOM - Kylie Burnett and Claire Hearnden for awesome work DOD - the hungover Bex Smith! Despite going down 4-0 by the final whistle, the team played much better than last week. Our girls kept the opposition on their toes, and came close to scoring. Their positioning was much better than previous games, as was their marking. Despite the loss, they've come a long way and there were some great positives for the rest of the season.
Ladies 4s did what they said they’d do and got the three points against NPL. This puts us 7th in the Division 1 table - not bad for a newly promoted team. Aim after Christmas is to climb further - and finish top half. The L4s kept calm even when they conceded a shock goal in the first few minutes (perhaps slightly asleep?) But they worked it out to score three back. A great game with lots of attacking opportunities and some good quality passing and running. MoM to two-goals Jade Caton. DoD to Rachel Buist for approximately five different reasons - Rachel is really growing into this role nicely :) Top of the table versus bottom of the table- it was a rollercoaster of a match with great passages of play and constructive passing which resulted in six team goals. Harriet Stevenson scoring three, being in the right place at the right time to receive and finish. The class of Bex Smith with a classy reverse chip flick, Laura Patterson with speed and a well paced lead into the circle and Sarah Blackburn from the top of the d a well-placed low flick.
Chiswick Ladies still hold their position at the top of the league with a sound 6-0 win! On a cold day away in the outskirts of London, the L3s modelled their matching underarmours to take on Eastcote 2s. As a red carpet was unavailable, Feline van der Sluijs was forced to walk through some mud (yes, MUD, the horror) to reach the changing rooms. Despite this travesty the game started well, with the two teams evenly matched apart from Eastcote's late signing of Alex Danson.
Strong linkup play between the defence and midfield gave Chiswick a few chances on goal but the scores remained tied for much of the first half. Eventually Eastcote played smart and put the ball on a foot in the Chiswick D, which resulted in a penalty corner and a scooped shot on goal which hit Bernie Elliott-Bowman on the line and resulted in a penalty flick and a goal for Eastcote. At the half-time whistle, Laura Bryant decided it would be great fun to hide her stick somewhere and spend five minutes trying to find it again while the rest of the team chatted tactics and all that jazz. Into the second half, and Chiswick continued to play confidently while soaking up some extended periods of Eastcote attacking pressure. Suzanne Birkett and Emma Milton battled hard in the middle to make chances again and again. Unfortunately, despite some final tense minutes of Chiswick attacking pressure the L3s were unable to capitalise on their chances and the game ended in a 1-0 loss. Mom - Emma Milton Dod - Laura Bryant. The ladies 4s arrived hyped and ready for a tough match against old rivals Staines in freezing conditions! Both teams were promoted from Division 2 last season so this was a tense re-match for both sides now in Division 1 and very closely matched in the league. The first half was a cagey affair for Chiswick until we found our groove. Towards the end of the first half we were awarded a penalty corner. Rachel Buist stepped up with an awesome first strike straight into the left hand bottom corner to put us 1-0 up at half time. This quality strike also earned Rachel MoM! The second half was strong - with Chiswick’s defence working together to keep Staines out. Despite a tense last quarter we managed to hold-on for a well earned 1-0 win and a crucial three points - and a push up the table to 8th! Thanks to Nick Richards, Cowboy and all the Chiswick supporters. DoD went to Gemma McIntosh for putting in a block tackle on her team-mate Jade Caton! After coming back from a loss Chiswick 1’s was more determined to put Wycombe through their paces. The first goal came early on from a penalty corner won by RhiBuchanan with her effortless battle against the Wycombe defence. Sarah Blackburn received the ball back from Rhi Buchanan who ran the ball on a straight line across to Tisunge Barrack who slotted the ball passed the keeper; 1-0 Chiswick.
Second goal saw an inspirational run from Jen Romano who we all at one-point thought was going to smash it home, but in true defender style passed to Rhi Buchanan who shot on a defender stick and quickly saw Tisunge Barrack steal on the back and bang it in, second goal to the Barrack; 2-0 Chiswick. In the dying seconds of the first half, Wycombe were awarded a penalty corner and scored, 2-1. Second half saw experience dominate the Wycombe’s defence as Chiswick were playing some stunning hockey passing the ball effortlessly around the pitch, where there was a build-up of play on the right, where Laura Patterson played the ball beautifully into the path of Sarah Blackburn who picked it up with grace and smacked a stunning goal from the top of the D into the back of the net, Chiswick 3-1. The final goal came from a penalty corner and the ball was passed around the D, when Rhianna Buchanan took hold of it and shot powerfully through the Wycombe defence. Final score 4-1 Chiswick. Chiswick ladies go top of the table! MOM: Tisunge Barrack & Celidah Walker DOD: Jen Romano Chiswick Ladies 4s fought hard but were undone by top of the league Southgate 3s.
In the first half the opposition scored two goals - both unlucky scrambles in the D - and in the second half they executed a brilliant short corner move to put one passed us. Despite this there were periods where Chiswick put Southgate under pressure - especially when they received a yellow card and were down to 10 players in the first half. Special mention must go to the entire defensive line who did a brilliant job against waves of attack and approximately a dozen short corners. Incredible athletic keeping from Alice earned her Man of the Match. Sophie Green received Dick of the Day for total failure to remember her shirt number. Despite the scoreline this was a good performance - especially considering that we are recently promoted from Division 2 and they are recently demoted from the Premier Division. Next up the L4s play old rivals Staines so a big come-back match next week! |
